I Saw a Confederate Flag Today

yummy
Here's some backstory: I'm taking a motorcycle trip from White Haven, PA, USA to Toronto, Canada. It's short, two days of riding, traveling through PA, then NY, then into Canada. I got to NY today; tomorrow it's all NY and then into lands unknown! (At least, unknown to me.) For the most part, it's been great good fun. Got rained on a bit (changed into rain gear right by the road, standing in the driveway of a lumber distributor), saw some picturesque towns and charming countryside, took a bunch of crap photos and narcissistic selfies that I'm planning to throw up on my Instagram account — y'know, the whole millennial travelogue kit'n'kaboodle.

But one thing I saw really stood out.Collapse )

welp

yummy

Every once in a blue moon I say I'm coming back here and then I never do. But this time I finally have an AO3 account, so I think what I'm going to do is take down all my fic from here, revamp it, and then maybe repost it.

A short detour into poetry

yummy

For whatever reason, birthday fever (or anxiety or depression or dizziness or whatever) makse me feel like I want to start collecting bits and pieces of my writing ("writing") here, so here's an assignment from an old class:

Let no St Ambrose ever cross this threshold —

Nor Theseus, nor Demosthenese, nor Alexander.

Archived in the airlock,

The monk of this alien religion

Spins out new worlds.

Bar, staff, and tremulous loom

Concuss the yellow air,

Breathing life, with hands for lips,

And a great mechanical throat,

Into a dozen diatonic hearts,

Each prelude

Untitled to the last.

Something about this feels unsatisfying or unfinished to me, it's still Not Poetry, but it's also done in the way some pieces are eventually done by virtue of becoming utterly unreceptive to further meddling
So: it is what it is, and I don't entirely hate it. I accept it as part of some kind of learning process, as a moment on the way to wherever I end up in the genre of poetry generally. And that's ok. It could be a lot worse.

ok, well

yummy
Everything is in French? But I'm not going to try and change it — it's an excuse to practice my extremely limited French.

(si j'ai un dictionnaire, je peux lire le française, manifestement)

My birthday is quite soon! I think I am going to go through my archive here and get rid of things or edit the things I want to keep.

(btw, my tumblr is claro3.tumblr.com (i... spend more time there))

I've recently gone back to riding, after an interval of more than 10 years. I was quite young when I stopped, and hadn't progressed very far. Not only did I start riding again, but my family decided to buy a horse.

I am, obviously, quickly accumulating some horse stories. Here's one.

Come into the barn...Collapse )

yummy
I believe I make more of these posts than I do of, well, actual posts.

What with the death (I won't say it's premature) of my semi-beloved Breakout Kings, I will have to revisit my sad, sad attempts at fic. I may end up deleting most, if not all of it.

A heartfelt apology goes to House Targaryen of Westeros Sorting fame, infamy, and fabulousity; I was welcomed lovingly and immediately dropped off the web, seemingly forever. (I certainly thought it might be forever.)

Anyway, following in my proud tradition of making non-posts of minor net ambition, I'm, um, back? And will clean up this mess, and post stuff. Or something.

It’s one of those times when Jack Rudolph really needs a break. He used to go home to his wife when he needed a break. He thinks he might need to see her again.

I figured I actually have enough of them to justify making one of these. The list is in two parts, multichapters and one-shots; each part is in order from oldest to newest (as accurately as I can remember) and will be updated as needed.
